Already puzzled by Prof Kirschner’s model of cognition http://logicalincrementalism.wordpress.com/2014/03/13/memories-are-made-of-this/
I’m now more puzzled … wasn’t the term ‘schema’ introduced by Bartlett in the 1930s and used by Piaget in the same decade? (English translation admittedly). And Richard Anderson, rather than John Anderson was instrumental in introducing it to education although doubtless J Anderson (intelligent tutoring systems) has used the concept.
Also, why are Kirschner, Willingham, Hattie and the American Educator cited so often in the same breath? There are many, many other sources of information about memory – and cognitive psychology. Reading Alan Baddeley would be a good place to start http://www.psypress.com/cw/baddeley-9781848720015/, since he’s a leading authority.
It was interesting to hear Prof Kirschner but I’m becoming increasingly concerned about the very small number of researchers being cited by those advocating evidence-based education.
